Tanghetto are not only pioneers in fusing tango and electronica but also absolute trendsetters in the new tango scene of Buenos Aires. The band took beyond the very concept of electrotango, adding to the mixture some elements of traditional tango, jazz, diverse South American influences and rocking drum beats. After 10 years, with 4 studio albums, a live DVD, a double live album, soundtracks, platinum and gold discs, tours in more than 20 countries worldwide, awards and nominations, Tanghetto still surprises from the studio and from the stage, with innovative recordings and a powerful audiovisual live show.

The “Tanghetto sound” is unique; it's a fusion of diverse sources of inspiration, both contemporary and traditional, that converge in Buenos Aires with the bandoneon (the nostalgic and characteristic instrument of the tango). Bandoneon takes the singer's role and is surrounded by diverse acoustic instruments and a sonic wall of synths and samplers. The band's music has been defined by the press as “(...) distinguished by its singular combination of simplicity, sophistication, sensibility, high energy and no prejudices”.

The band started out in 2001, based on an idea of Max Masri, the youngest and last disciple of the late tango legend Virgilio Exposito (composer of “Naranjo en Flor”). Max joined forces with Diego S. Velázquez and together they worked on what would eventually become “Emigrante”, the debut album. Released in 2003, that album reached in short time the Platinum status (double platinum as of 2011) and was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2004. “Emigrante” is a concept album disco conceptual inspired in the Argentine diaspora of 2001/2002. The musical textures recall the experiences of migrants in the “Little Argentinas”, communities of argentines living abroad. The concept is present in the very name of the band, being it the combination of the words “tango” and “ghetto”.

In 2004 the side project “Hybrid Tango” was released and soon reached gold status (platinum as of 2011) and was nominated for a Latin Grammy as well. “Hybrid” expanded Tanghetto's musical range including elements of jazz and other south american rhythms. Nowadays that album is considered to be part of the band's discography.

Between 2005 and 2008, after consolidating their live performances on argentine stages, Tanghetto toured around the world, showing their music in more than 20 countries. Tanghetto's “Emigrante Tour” included dates in the US, France, Germany, Italy, UK, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Mexico, where they performed in 19 cities for 50.000 people countrywide, including a memorable show in the Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 10.000 people.

In 2006 the first live DVD (“Live in Buenos Aires”) was released. It showed a complete concert plus some videoclips, some of them alredy in MTV rotation at that time. During the 2007 european tour they recorded a BBC Unplugged in London. Some of the songs recorded on that occasion will be included in the second volume of the band's live album "VIVO" (2011).

En 2008 Tanghetto released “El Miedo a la Libertad”, a work that further expanded the band's musical realms, where we can find traces of rock, pop, jazz, bossa nova and world music together with the tango and electro sounds. The album obtained a Premio Gardel (argentine equivalent to the Grammy) in 2009 and became also a gold album. The 2008/2009, called “Tour de la Libertad” includes cities such as Buenos Aires, Montevideo, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazilia, London (Thames Festival 2008), Paris, Roma, Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam, Vienna, Venezia, Torino, Napoli, Guayaquil, Quito, Santiago, Bogotá, Lima, Istanbul,Thessaloniki, and many other cities in Europe and the Americas. During this tour Tanghetto performed in festivals like “Sons e Sonidos” in São Paulo, and “Brasil Rural Contemporâneo” in Rio, sharing the stage with artistis such as Gilberto Gil and Carlinhos Brown. Within a year (2009-2010) Tanghetto became the top argentine artist to tour in Brazil, with 20 concerts in 10 cities.

In November 2009, Tanghetto released "Más Allá del Sur", a new studio work in which the band reaches a balance between tradition and innovation, acoustic sound and electric, danceability and listenability. Tanghetto never was so close to the tango roots, and nevertheless, they carry on their task of renovation of tango music. “Más Allá…” was nominated in 2010 to the Gardel Awards as best “World Music Album”.

The tight schedule for 2011 (called "Mas Allá del Sur World Tour") includes some 25 cities in 13 countries. Some of the cities of the tour are: Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Brasilia, Goiânia, Bogotá, Medellín, Roma, Milano, Venezia, Genova, Bari, Napoli, Kassel, Utrecht, Vienna, Istanbul, Bucarest and others.
