In 2003 Tanghetto's debut "Emigrante" -now a classic and a platinum record- was released. Months later, to be more precise in July 2004, a Grammy scouting put the record in the Latin Grammy competition and eventually it became nominated, as "best instrumental album". The category was shared with the critically acclaimed violoncellist and classical music world-famous celebrity Yo Yo Ma.

The event took place in Los Angeles between August and September 2004. The exposure obtained from this first Latin Grammy nomination was crucial for Tanghetto, with a growing interest in the band's music in the American musical industry. It was also good to put Tanghetto in the musical map of Latin America in general. This included even Argentina, where at that time the group was still fighting to obtain recognition out of the underground scene. It was in 2004 that Tanghetto began gaining a presence in the mainstream.

The 2004 Latin Grammy Awards gave Tanghetto an unprecedented media exposure in the States and Mexico, with articles and interviews in dieron a CBS, NBC, ABC, E! Entertainment, Sony Entertainment TV, Univision, Telemundo, L.A. Times, Reforma, El Universal, etc.

It was also in 2004 that Max and Diego, together with other musicians (such as Chao Xu, who eventually became a full-time member of Tanghetto) recorded a project called "Hybrid Tango", where the tango and electronica mixture that is the basis of "Emigrante" became more intimate, acoustic and organic. In fact, in "Hybrid Tango" they dare to add different elements, such as flamenco, jazz and other latin rhythms. This path would be further explored later with "El Miedo a la Libertad".

In 2005 "Hybrid Tango" is selected to compete in the Latin Grammy Awards and gets the second nomination for Tanghetto. This second time helped assure the exposure and contributed to make happen the three tours in the US that took place in 2006 and 2007. The second nomination also brought massive media exposition in North America and even in Argentina.

The two Latin Grammy nomintions and the Gardel Award ("El Miedo a la Libertad", 2009) of Tanghetto show the prestige and valoration of Tanghetto's musical and technical quality, as well as an interest for what's going on in the new tango scene in Buenos Aires.
